SPSA Series Race Sat 1/20 @ 11:00AM

Reminder – The next SPSA Race is this coming Saturday (1/20) at 11:00AM! After the race (around 3:00pm) there will be a chili cook-off at the Sailing Center. This event is BYOB and there will be a table setup in the morning if anybody would like to drop crockpots off before hand. All members are welcome to join, even if you are unable to make it out to the race!

Additionally, we would like to provide a reminder about our next Moonlight Cruise that will take place next Friday, January 26th. All members and a guest are welcome, and we plan to meet at the Sailing Center by 5:30PM where we will match everybody up with boats. This is a great way for non-boat owners to get out on the water!

Lastly, as SPSA grows their membership we want to welcome our two newest members that have both joined in January:

– Chris Tucker
– Mary Moosbrugger

Please join us in welcome these new members, and we look forward to seeing everybody out on the water this weekend!

New Year’s Pursuit Race

What better way to start the New Year than to go sailing?  Even better – it is two races in one!  The King of the Bay competition will be part of the New Year Pursuit Race.

Since this is a pursuit race and each boat will have its own start time, so it’s important to attend the skipper’s meeting.

The skippers meeting will be at 9:30 am at the Sailing Center.  The start is at 11:00 a.m.

The course will be selected at the skippers meeting based on the weather, which in turn determines everyone’s start time.  The lower your boat’s rating, the later you start.  The winners are determined by order of finish.  The King of the Bay course will be embedded within the pursuit race.  We will explain how that will work at the skipper’s meeting.

After the race we will meet up at Courigan’s where the winners will be awarded a fun prize.

SPSA Announces King of the Bay Challenge

The St. Petersburg Sailing Association announces a new contest on Tampa Bay.  The sailing instructions are very uncomplicated and knowledge of the Yacht Racing Rules does not confer an advantage on a competitor.  A single trophy will be awarded at the end of each month to the best performance during that period.  A new month brings the chance for the King to extend his reign… or watch his status slip away.  The reigning king at the end of the season wins the coveted “King of the Bay” flag.  This is a free, open challenge… all boats eligible for a WFPHRF certificate are eligible to participate.  Pass the word!!!

We will kick off this challenge on New Year’s Day as our pursuit will cover this course giving you an opportunity for an entry.
