SPSA Summer Sailing

Hello Sailors,
Summer Sailstice Trifecta:
If you haven't heard about the Summer Sailstice its an International Celebration of Sailing. It takes place annually in June celebrating Summer Solstice – the longest day of the year.
The Celebration will take place on Saturday June 22 (solstice is on June 20). We've been trying to come up with an event and Yowza we have one! A Sailing Trifecta
  1. SPYC Twilight Race on Friday – June 21
  2. Sail to Boca Ciega Bay and take part in the BCYC Pot Luck Dinner at their clubhouse in Gulfport.
  3. Race in  BCYC's Club Race on Sunday. The Race starts at noon.

BCYC has officially invited SPSA members to join in the Club Race on Sunday and the Pot Luck on Saturday.  Here's the details:

Potluck Dinner – Saturday, June 22nd:
  • This month's dinner is a plant-based Indian Feast. Our hosts will be serving
  • Mulligatawny soup
  • Biryani
  • Bhindi Masala
  • Kacumber salad
  • We are serving plant based cuisine but there will be plenty of protein and flavor, and spices will be moderated.
  • Bring your best/favorite plant-based, vegan, or vegetarian appetizers, salads, sides, and desserts to help round out the menu. If possible, please label your dishes (dairy-free, gluten-free, etc.)
  • Happy Hour / appetizers start at 6 pm, dinner is at 7 pm. Beverages are BYOB, but BCYC has an awesome ice machine. 
  • Please RSVP so our cooks know how many to expect
  • PHRF Racing – Sunday, June 23rd:
    • Skipper's meeting at 11:00 AM in the clubhouse
    • We try to get two races in
    • After-party in the "Sandbar Lounge" (our patio under the sail canopy)

         For the dinner include a headcount and names of attendees prior to Tuesday June18th.
         For the race on Sunday include boat info, Sail # and PHRF Rating.

    Options for dockage/mooring/anchoring
    If you plan to sail over to Gulfport on Saturday and want to stay over for the Sunday race here are some options:
    Gulfport Marina – reserve a slip or mooring through Dockwa
    You can anchor – find a suitable spot in Boca Ciega Bay.

    Please try to join in the International Celebration of Sailing by participating in one or all three of these events.
